About RAIN.

The Real-World AI Network is a student program under the umbrella of the Societal Computing & Innovation Lab (SCIL) at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, hosted by the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego. It exists to consolidate and elevate student AI activity into a unified, high-impact ecosystem spanning research, industry, and entrepreneurship.

Why we exist.

RAIN exists to consolidate and elevate student activities in artificial intelligence at UC San Diego into a unified, high-impact ecosystem spanning research, industry, and entrepreneurship.

  • Transform fragmented student efforts into coordinated, high-leverage systems mentored by faculty.
  • Accelerate real-world AI deployment and innovation.
  • Build a durable pipeline from research to application to venture creation.
  • Train UC San Diego students as national leaders in applied, agentic, and systems-level AI.

Where we're going.
